We are pleased to offer you a relaxing, exciting and fun painting course during your stay in Tuscany in the studio of artist Gordon Breckenridge in San Gimignano. All participants, with or without experience, will be able to learn both the techniques of drawing, color or oil painting and much more thanks to painting from life by a well-known local Canadian artist with more than 40 years of painting experience “En plen air” in Tuscany. The basic course lasts 3 hours with the possibility of switching to an intensive 9 hour course to be divided into 3 afternoons for the basic courses and 2/3 afternoons for the oil course. Basic drawing course
Being an artist is not just about technique but also the ability to see poetry
The drawing course allows you to learn the essential elements for the realization of a drawing giving the participant the necessary notions to create realistic drawings using pencil, charcoal, colored pastels and many other artistic materials. Through simple shapes it will be possible to learn the basics of the perspective of an object in space in relation to one’s point of view as well as the realization of lights and shadows through the technique of cross-hatching shading.
Basic course on color (Watercolor)
In the green hills and golden fields of Tuscany, you will discover the universal language of art
The basic course on color takes up Steiner’s philosophy using watercolor colors. The course will be a journey on the concept of color perception by the eye, developing the idea that color has an important impact on the psychological and emotional state of the human being. Initially, the processing of color will be intuitive and empirical, then trying to find a scientific way to explain its manifestations and effects. Once you have mastered and understood color, the course moves on to the world dedicated to watercolor painting.

The Song of Brushstrokes
Each brushstroke is a note, and your painting becomes a symphony
The “en plein air” oil based course will be immersed in the Tuscan countryside. The participant will be able to paint views by developing the ability to observe and reproduce color with a brush or palette knife, creating a composition from start to finish. The artist will help the participant to develop the knowledge of the technique and of the oil starting from the preparation of the canvas. Learn how to mix color, practicing applying layers in order to modify the brightness, density and transparency of the tint by working on the chromatic gradations, passing from the darkest to the lightest. At the end of each intensive course the student will have acquired sufficient knowledge to be able to continue a personal study path.
